Located just outside Madison in Mount Horeb, Wis., MadMarker Studios is the Midwest’s only independently owned animation studio utilizing motion capture technology. When describing what they do, David Healy, head of studio operations, said: “Think Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings and Avatar.” The studio is working on expanding into film and television, with the bulk of their current work in video games and virtual reality. The founding team didn’t want to relocate away from Wisconsin and saw a demand for motion capture work here, given the Madison area’s thriving video game hub. With cutting-edge technology, including facial capturing, and the goal to help further build Madison’s industry, MadMarker Studios is happy to call Wisconsin home.
