Last month Google officially opened the doors of its new office in Madison, doubling the size of its local space as the company continues to expand its Madison presence.
The 30,000-square-foot office, located at 811 E. Washington Ave., features sweeping views of the city, an outdoor lounge area, game room, gym and a cafe that serves employees free food.
Google first opened a small Madison office in 2007, where it housed just three employees. Now, more than 10 years later, the company has grown its Madison outpost to more than 100 employees. Google's Madison office focuses on hardware and software development for Google's data centers.
Google announced in February that was investing $13 billion into office expansions across the U.S. Along with Madison, Google is also growing its presence in Chicago and New York and opening new data centers in Nebraska and Ohio.
“Our expansion across the U.S. has been crucial to finding great new talent, improving the services that people use every day, and investing in our business,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote in a company blog post earlier this year. "2019 marks the second year in a row we’ll be growing faster outside of the Bay Area than in it.”
