The automated Octane coffee drive-thru that made its debut in Pewaukee more than a year ago could be expanding its business with a second location proposed at the Bluemound Plaza in the Town of Brookfield.

Members of the Town Board will review on Tuesday plans for conceptual approval from Octane Coffee founder and CEO Adrian Deasy, who has proposed a new location at 19555 W. Bluemound Road. The town’s Plan Commission granted conceptual approval for the project on Aug. 27.

In its review, the Plan Commission considered the proposed land use and its compatibility with adjacent land uses, according to documents. Town administrator Tom Hagie said the proposed Octane is near an Aldi store at the Bluemound Plaza.

The company website touts “customized coffee in 30 seconds or less.” However, the company reported to Town of Brookfield in documents that the first location has “regular customers picking up their orders in 10 seconds or less.”

Octane launched its first drive-thru in March of 2023 at W229-N1400 Westwood Drive, with a robotic concept that does not require any regular onsite employees. All orders are filled by robotic automation housed within the small building.

The proposed building in Town of Brookfield will be portable and can be relocated in the future, according to documents submitted to the town. If the board grants conceptual approval, the proposal would return to the Architectural Review Committee and Plan Commission for further review and action, according to Hagie.

Documents submitted to the town share that Octane Coffee is a fully automated coffee drive-thru concept designed, built and managed in the Waukesha area. Octane serves Stone Creek coffee, tea, juice and frozen drinks as well as grab-and-go food and bakery items.
