In its latest venture investment, Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin has backed a personalized nutrition app startup in Austin, Texas.
The Milwaukee-area health system recently announced its participation in a $7 million capital raise for Season Health. It invested alongside other investors, including the Chicago-based Ziegler Link-age Funds.
Froedtert & MCW's investment was through Inception Health, its digital health arm. Inception Health has a $15 million investment fund that makes strategic investments in startups that could help transform the health system.
The Season app offers medically tailored meals, recipes and access to registered dietitians to help users manage health issues like diabetes and high cholesterol. Froedtert & MCW plans to provide Season's offerings to employees and a targeted patient population in early 2024, according to a Dec. 14 announcement.
Season Health will use the new capital to support the launch of its population health and value-based care programs, the startup's co-founder and CEO Josh Hix said in a recent statement.
This is the third time Inception Health has invested in a startup alongside Ziegler Link-age Funds, Inception Health director Mike Maschek said. Ziegler Link-age Funds manager Katie Schmitz is also based in Milwaukee.
Froedtert launched Inception Health in 2015 and has stepped up its investments in early-stage digital health companies since the pandemic. It has made 18 investments to date including Season Health, Maschek told Wisconsin Inno in November.
Froedtert Health is in the process of merging with ThedaCare, a health system based in Neenah.
