Thirteen Milwaukee-area companies were counted among the list of America's fastest-growing firms produced each year by Inc. magazine, marking a decline from a year ago.
The Inc. 5000 list ranks U.S.-based for-profit companies based on each business's revenue growth — and marks their entrepreneurial success. In 2022, there were 16 Milwaukee-area companies on the list.
This year's list ranked companies based on their revenue growth from 2019 to 2022. To qualify, a company must apply to be on the list and have had a minimum revenue of $100,000 in 2019 and $2 million in 2022.
The Inc. 5000 list included 638 newly founded companies, including two from Wisconsin, and 3,047 repeat honorees. The 13 Milwaukee-area firms on the list recorded median growth of 179%, $479.6 million in total revenue and 955 jobs added.
Inc.'s annual rankings of the fastest-growing companies began in 1982 with just 500 businesses listed. The magazine expanded to 5,000 businesses in 2007. The full list can be found online but only the top 500 are featured in the print magazine.
