The Milwaukee Bucks will host their second annual Analytics Hackathon at the end of March, challenging students from universities to answer basketball and business-related questions through the use of analytics.

The hackathon will have a basketball and business track. The basketball track will take place on March 20 and 21. The business track will have a first round on March 19 and final presentations on March 23.

The registrations for each track will close on March 10. The Bucks are looking for up to 12 teams with four to five students on each team.

The Bucks hosted the first annual hackathon in April 2022. It featured 13 universities with two teams from Syracuse University winning both the basketball and business tracks.

“After last year’s successful debut, our second annual Analytics Hackathon is a great opportunity for students to flex their creative and analytical minds to solve business problems, network with sports professionals and showcase their talent,” the Bucks vice president of business strategy and analytics Sumathi Thiyagarajan said in a press release.

Each track will have a first, second and third place winner. The first place team will win tickets to a 2023-2024 Bucks home game, which would include transportation and hotel if necessary. The second and third place teams will receive Bucks Pro Shop gift cards.

“The Analytics Hackathon helps us identify rising stars in the sports analytics industry and generates new solutions to the questions we face,” Bucks director of research and innovation TJ Barra added in the release. “We’re eager to see how the talented teams will tackle this year’s competition.”
