Venture capital activity slowed nationwide in 2022 after years of frenzied investments and soaring company valuations, according to a Jan. 12 report from PitchBook and the National Venture Capital Association.
While that trend also impacted Wisconsin's venture capital industry, the state still had a relatively strong year when it came to attracting venture capital investments into Wisconsin companies.
Wisconsin firms raised $584 million across 92 deals in 2022, compared with $592 million across 105 deals in 2021, which was a record year, according to the PitchBook-NVCA data.
Venture capital deals among early-stage companies showed "remarkable resiliency" in 2022 even as the broader industry experienced a slowdown, PitchBook founder and CEO John Gabbert said in a statement.
