University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee alumni and students have the opportunity to access a lucrative career opportunity in human resources technology through a new apprenticeship program, according to a Wednesday announcement.
The paid apprenticeships are offered through Helios Consulting, a Minnesota-based company that helps companies implement and use Workday HR software.
Around half of Fortune 500 companies use Workday, creating a strong demand for Workday-trained talent, according to Helios.
"Together with Helios, we're helping to address one of the most critical talent gaps faced by Wisconsin employers, and enabling our students and graduates to gain the skills that translate to success in today's increasingly tech-driven labor market," UWM provost Scott Gronert said in a statement.
The 12-week apprenticeship program is a remote, intensive development program. Participants will be hired as full-time Helios employees with salaries around $60,000, according to Helios. They'll also have access to benefits including health coverage and paid time off.
Topics covered in the program include HR, Workday and consulting, and participants will receive a Workday accreditation. Upon completion of the program, they'll receive a salary increase and be assigned to work with a Helios client.
Two years after training, apprentices could be earning around $85,000, according to Helios. Within three to four years, Helios expects that participants could be earning six-figure salaries either with Helios or working for one of the firm's clients.
The Helios apprenticeship program is called Rise and applications are open.
Several Milwaukee-area employers, including Kohl's, Associated Bank and the Medical College of Wisconsin, have offered various types of technology apprenticeships in recent years.
