Following a national search, StartingBlock Madison Inc. has named Scott Mosley as its new executive director, according to a Tuesday announcement.

Former StartingBlock executive director Nora Roughen-Schmidt left in June to take a new position with the Wisconsin Small Business Development Center. The organization's interim executive director has been Karen Crossley.

Mosley previously was the chief operating officer at Madison-based commissioned art firm CODAworx. Prior to that, he was the director of investments at The Water Council in Milwaukee, where he raised capital to support water technology startups.

Earlier in his career, Mosley was director of capital at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

“Scott is the right person at the right time for StartingBlock Madison,” StartingBlock board co-chair Mark Richardson said in a statement. “There are significant opportunities in the post-Covid-lockdown environment to accelerate entrepreneurial momentum and support the scaling of high-growth startups in Madison and across Wisconsin.”

StartingBlock Madison was formed in 2013 and is a community for entrepreneurs, startups, investors and accelerators and other entrepreneur support organizations.

The organization opened its physical location in Madison in 2018 inside an American Family Insurance building known as The Spark.

Peter Gray Executive Search, a Madison firm focused on the nonprofit space, led the search for StartingBlock's executive director.
