Milwaukee venture capital firm Gateway Capital Partners and the local digital medication storage cabinet company CareDirect are among the tenants in the Eagleknit innovation hub, according to a recent announcement.

Wangard Partners Inc. redeveloped the former Eagle Knitting Mills building at 507 S. Second St. in Walker's Point and opened the Eagleknit hub earlier this year.

The innovation hub within the Eagleknit building is known as Converge and occupies the first and second floors. Now around 75% leased, it features smaller workspaces, a tenant lounge and an event space designed for community events in the startup, venture capital and innovation ecosystem, Wangard's Burton Metz told Wisconsin Inno.

The building's third and fourth floors have 50,000 square feet designed for larger tenants that Wangard is currently seeking, Metz said. There's also a data center on the second floor.

Gateway Capital Partners is led by Dana Guthrie and CareDirect's chairman is Matt Cordio; both are well-known in the local startup community.

Forward Community Investments, a Madison-based community development financial institution that's managing a new investment fund for Hispanic developers in Milwaukee, is also an Eagleknit tenant, according to the Nov. 15 announcement.

Among the other recently announced tenants are web and app development firm Spin Group, owned by Gary Wong; Walker Media Agency led by Matt Walker; and Geno.Me, a health data startup backed by Gateway Capital.

“Eagleknit has been a great motivator for our staff to come back in-person,” Wong said in a Nov. 15 statement.

Other Eagleknit tenants are Christian radio promotion firm 55 Promotion, art kit supplier Doodle Hog and media production company TriMarq.

As previously announced, the technology training nonprofit i.c. stars is also a tenant.

Building amenities include a cafe space, communal conference rooms, a fitness studio, a shared lounge area and a 3,500-square-foot rooftop terrace. Wangard is seeking a cafe operator, Metz said.

The skilled trades education organization Building2Learn Consortium was previously announced as an Eagleknit tenant but is no longer there, Metz said.
