Portable lead detection device developer NanoAffix Science LLC of Wauwatosa is among 10 companies selected for a late-stage water technology startup accelerator program, The Water Council announced Tuesday.
The Water Council's BREW (Business, Research & Entrepreneurship in Water) 2.0 Post-Accelerator program is designed for companies that are ready to enter the market or that have early sales. Participating companies will get targeted virtual training to help them build connections and grow capacity.
The other companies selected for the BREW 2.0 cohort are based in Tacoma, Washington, as well as in Austria, the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Sweden and France. The companies will present their innovations at a virtual pitch event for water industry professionals and investors on June 23.
Founded in 2009 by Junhong Chen, NanoAffix Science has developed a portable device for real-time detection of lead in tap water. The sensor device pairs with a mobile app to deliver results in seconds, according to the company's website.
The Water Council, in Milwaukee, ran its six-month BREW accelerator program from 2013 to 2019. In 2020, the organization revamped the program as BREW 2.0. This is the second BREW 2.0 cohort.
Earlier this year, an Australian company that participated in the BREW program in 2017 announced plans to go public.
