In late September, Marcell Jackson, a technical project manager at General Electric Co. and a former GE Healthcare engineer, opened a co-working space at 530 E. Vienna Ave. in Milwaukee. The company held an open house event Nov. 20 to celebrate two months in business.
Known as Ambition Center MKE, it offers flexible co-working options for $200 per month, dedicated desks in a shared office for $380 per month and private offices for $630 per month. The 3,300-square-foot space also has room to host meetings and events for up to 30 people, Jackson said.
The center has four members so far and is targeting a total of 15 in the next few months, said Jackson, who is leasing the building.
Jackson is self-funding the co-working business and also received money from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.'s Main Street Bounceback Grants program and the Riverworks Business Improvement District.
The goal of the center is to provide a positive community for underrepresented entrepreneurs, freelancers, creatives and remote professionals.
"I wanted to make sure it was more than just a co-working space," Jackson said.
Jackson is running a campaign called Ambitious MKE aimed at highlighting and connecting diverse individuals from the city. The center is hosting several events featuring individuals from around Milwaukee, sharing stories on its social media platforms and selling Ambitious MKE merchandise.
