Startup accelerator gener8tor has announced the latest cohort for its gBETA Social Impact program, which will focus on startups advancing equity in education.

The Spring 2021 cohort includes five participating startups, who will participate in the free, seven-week accelerator designed to help them gain early customer traction on their product or idea, and provide a competitive edge while seeking future participation in full-time, equity-based accelerators or seed funding.

In the announcement, the accelerator added all participants will receive intensive and individualized coaching and access to gener8tor’s network of mentors, customers, corporate partners and investors over the seven week program, which is being sponsored by the American Family Institute for Corporate and Social Impact.

Shayna Hetzel, equity in education director at the company, said the program aligns with its mission to close equity gaps in education across the country.

“We believe that social innovation and entrepreneurship can accelerate that,” she added. “By partnering with gener8tor on early stage startup programs, we are building a community of education changemakers who are building a more equitable and inclusive tomorrow.”

The program, launched in early March, and includes participants ranging from a social-emotional learning platform to a virtual Black history museum, gener8tor said.

“I’m particularly excited for this cohort as we really focused on thinking about K-12 educational equity from multiple dimensions,” said Joe Baz, gener8tor’s gBETA social impact equity in education director. “We have teams addressing social-emotional learning; mental health and sexual education; Black history education; school district financial equity; and teacher support tools.”

The gBETA Social Impact cohort participants include:

SuperBetter, which brings social-emotional learning to life for middle and high school classrooms. Over 1 million people have played the SuperBetter web and mobile app, and the SuperBetter TED Talk has been viewed more than 7 million times.

Maro, a mobile library of digital content and in-app AI parent companion to help parents navigate tough conversations with their K-8th grade children around mental and reproductive health. The company has been featured in Forbes, and was named a Top 5 app for “connecting with children.”

Reframe History, which enables socially-conscious nonprofits and companies to sponsor virtual Black history exhibits. The company has generated more than $40k in revenue in its first six months, and more than 6,000 people have interacted with its first exhibit, “The Rise of Glenville.”

Edstruments, a software platform serving to empower K-12 leaders to manage school budgets more effectively and equitably. The company’s tools are currently in use by several clients across the country and has so far generated more than $40k in revenue. The company was founded by a former teacher.

Integrate, a suite of automatic learning tools that allow K-12 schools to streamline their classroom workflow and allows teachers to reduce the number of platforms needed to run their classrooms and curriculum efficiently. The startup has secured over $29k in annual recurring revenue.

The gBETA Social Impact accelerator program is held twice a year. For more information or to apply, visit: www.gbetasocialimpact.com/.
