American Family Insurance and Molson Coors Beverage Co. have joined the Milwaukee Tech Hub Coalition, an alliance designed to attract and retain technology professionals and companies in the Milwaukee region.

The two companies are among the largest names to join the coalition in recent months, since We Energies joined in January.

The coalition launched in October of 2019, with Northwestern Mutual, Kohl's Corp., Rockwell Automation, Johnson Controls, Advocate Aurora Health and Accenture, which is incorporated in Dublin, Ireland, but has an office in Milwaukee, as the six founding companies. The companies pledged a two-year commitment to contribute a combined $5 million to fund the not-for-profit coalition.

The coalition aids Milwaukee programs and initiatives that support tech workers and tech startup companies.

American Family, the multibillion-dollar Madison-based property and casualty insurance provider, has been increasing its visibility in the Milwaukee market. The firm became the presenting sponsor of Summerfest in 2017 and is set next year to become the naming rights sponsor of the Milwaukee Brewers’ ballpark.

American Family is also establishing a corporate office on North Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, where it intends to eventually employ about 400 workers, which would largely be of a high-tech nature, including data scientists and engineers.

The company, which also invests in Wisconsin based startups through its venture capital funds, emphasized its plans to develop a diverse workforce in opening an office in Milwaukee.

Chicago-based beverage company Molson Coors (NYSE: TAP) houses its administrative functional support roles in Milwaukee.
