Modern Hire, a company that uses artificial intelligence and voice technology to hire candidates for employers, is expanding its platform with the acquisition of Sonru, an Ireland-based provider of automated video interviewing technology.

Modern Hire splits its headquarters between Delafield in Waukesha County and Cleveland. Some of the brands that benefit from Modern Hire's hiring platform include Amazon, Capital One, CVS Health, FedEx and Walmart.

Modern Hire is the rebranded name of a merger between Shaker International, a Cleveland firm that provides predictive talent intelligence and assessment technology, and Montage, the Delafield firm that uses AI-based video, text and voice technology to hire candidates for employers.

Baird Capital, the investment arm of Robert W. Baird & Co. in Milwaukee, is an investor in Modern Hire.

"This will increase our in-market presence in major growth geographies and enable us to better anticipate the changing needs of our global buyers," said Modern Hire president Brian Stern in a statement. "We welcome Sonru to the Modern Hire team, and look forward to supporting their clients with the strength of our technology, team and reach."

The list of existing Sonru customers include DHL, Nestle, Qatar Airways, Rolls-Royce, UBS and Westpac. The acquisition also stretches Modern Hire's global footprint in Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
