Madison-based AI health care startup EnsoData raised a new round of funding to diagnose health conditions, starting with sleep disorders.

EnsoData announced Wednesday that it raised a $9 million Series A round led by Venture Investors and Zetta Venture Partners. Other investors in the round include SleepScore Ventures, Dreamit Ventures and Necessary Ventures. The startup has now raised $11 million to date.

Founded in 2015, EnsoData uses data from sensors in medical devices and wearables to help clinicians make faster and more accurate diagnoses. EnsoData is currently working to diagnose sleep disorders like sleep apnea by analyzing billions of waveform data points from things like heartbeats on an EKG or eye movements on an EOG.

EnsoData is able to detect and diagnose sleep apnea at a lower cost and in substantially less time, the startup says.

“Sleep apnea is a condition that plagues nearly one billion people worldwide, and we’re uniquely positioned to address this massive problem,” Chris Fernandez, CEO of EnsoData, said in a statement. “We know that not everyone has access to quality and affordable treatment, and have the conviction that our technology can help bridge that gap."

The startup says it's the first artificial intelligence technology that's FDA-cleared to help clinicians diagnose sleep disorders.

EnsoData said it will use the funding to grow its team, launch new AI products in sleep and neurology, and grow its partnerships with sleep clinics and health systems.

“We believe that EnsoData will be a game-changer for the way we diagnose and treat patients,” Mark Gorenberg, managing director at Zetta Venture Partners, said in a statement. “Sleep is just the beginning."
