A Madison-based augmented reality and virtual reality software startup is one of 10 companies selected to a new space accelerator led by Techstars.

Techstars announced its newest class of the Techstars Starburst Space Accelerator on Monday. Among the companies this year is Holos, a startup founded in 2015 that creates VR and AR education software for classrooms. Last year Holos landed $800,000 in two SBIR contracts with the U.S. Air Force, where it's working to develop VR maintenance and repair training programs, and a prototype for the Air Force’s Multi-Domain Command Control system.

This is the second cohort for the Techstars Starburst Space Accelerator, which began in 2019. The program normally takes place in Los Angeles but is running virtually this summer due to Covid-19. The three-month accelerator wraps up with a demo day on Sept. 9.

Companies in the program will work closely with Starburst, NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Lockheed Martin, Maxar Technologies, SAIC, Israel Aerospace Industries North America, and the U.S. Air Force, Techstars said.

The goal is to work with entrepreneurs who are "solving big commercial problems with applications for space."

"The quality of the applicants this year was again remarkable, and the selected companies represent a diversity of ideas, geographies, and industries," Techstars said in the announcement. "Our companies are tackling challenges in areas such as Earth observation, synthetic data, telerobotics, air monitoring, 3rd Wave AI, composite pressure vessels and more."
