Fast-growing Madison startup Fetch Rewards just added an experienced tech executive to its C-suite.

Fetch, a mobile shopping rewards platform, announced Monday that it hired David Berk to be its chief technology officer. Berk comes to Fetch from Shipt, where he served as CTO of the grocery delivery service since 2016, including its acquisition by Target in 2018. Prior to Shipt, Berk worked as a senior engineering manager at Apple, where he helped launch Spotlight Search, the function in the upper-right corner of a Mac's menu bar that helps you find items on your computer.

Berk joined Apple after his company Topsy Labs was acquired by the tech giant in 2013. Berk served as VP of operations at Topsy, which developed the initial technology behind Spotlight Search.

"I was drawn to Fetch for many reasons, primary among them was the company's having already achieved fantastic growth and product-market fit," Berk said in a statement. "Helping people save money and delivering millions of tiny, joyful experiences while building world class technology is an amazing opportunity."

Fetch has created a mobile shopping platform that gives users rewards for buying certain grocery brands. Its app has been downloaded nearly 8 million times and it has more than 3 million active users.

Fetch told Wisconsin Inno last month that it has seen an uptick in app usage during the Covid-19 crisis as consumers are buying more products on their grocery trips. In the first four months of 2020, Fetch delivered more than $21 million in savings to consumers who scanned over 130 million receipts on the app, the company said. Fetch is currently the 15th most downloaded free iOS shopping app in the U.S., according to App Annie, outranking companies like Etsy, Craigslist and The Home Depot.

The startup raised a $25 million round in 2019 from Greycroft and eVentures.
