GrocerKey, a Madison-based startup helping grocery chains compete with Amazon and Instacart, is hiring 1,000 new employees as it works to meet online grocery demand at Woodman’s Markets.
The tech company announced this week that the 1,000 e-commerce fulfillment staff will be added in Wisconsin and Illinois to fulfill orders made on ShopWoodmans.com. The service, which is powered by GrocerKey’s tech, allows shoppers to purchase groceries for curbside pickup and local delivery.
Open positions for the Woodman’s division include full- and part-time supervising store level staff and customer service roles. Woodman’s, based in Janesville, Wisc., has 18 stores throughout Wisconsin and Illinois.
Founded by Jeremy Neren in 2014, GrocerKey gives grocery retailers all the digital tools needed—on both the front and back end—to offer an e-commerce business that compliments a store’s brick-and-mortar operations. The idea is to help grocery chains compete with on-demand providers as more shoppers buy groceries online.
GrocerKey builds branded online stores and mobile apps for grocery chains, where customers can place online orders from their phone or computer, and get items sent to their door. And retailers fulfill orders efficiently through a back-end management system also made by GrocerKey.
Besides Woodman’s, GrocerKey works with 15 medium and large regional grocers across the country, including Kowalski’s, Kings Food Markets and Berkot’s Super Foods. To date, GrocerKey has raised $6.5 million, said Neren.
Correction: This article has been updated to reflect that GrocerKey has raised $6.5 million, not $5 million.
