Wisconsin Inno Checks Out Bright Cellars for State of Innovation Meetup (Event Recap)

On Thursday, Oct. 24, the Wisconsin Inno team ventured to Milwaukee for a State of Innovation event featuring a fireside chat with Bright Cellars CEO Richard Yau.

The night’s conversation centered around Richard Yau and how Bright Cellars came to fruition, as well as the trends the company notices and challenges Yau has faced since starting the company, which matches consumers to wine based on their personal preferences.

Yau said he started Bright Cellars to help introduce and educate people on wine. “It was so easy to get into craft beer, so why isn’t it like that for wine?”

Yau originally founded Bright Cellars in Boston after attending MIT. He brought the company to Wisconsin to participate in @gener8tor's accelerator program. Then he started building a staff and decided to plant roots in Milwaukee.

You can build a company anywhere, and Milwaukee and Wisconsin is a great place to do it. But what else could the startup ecosystem here use? Access to capital and more “big wins.” WI needs more examples of big startup success stories, Yau says.
