AkitaBox, a Madison-based startup that makes cloud-based facility management software, has appointed a new CEO with a track record of tech success in Silicon Valley and Seattle.
AkitaBox announced Monday that it has hired Matt Miszewski as its new chief executive. Miszewski previously worked at Microsoft, where he served as general manager of its global government industry. Prior to that, he was a senior VP for Salesforce.
Most recently, Miszewski served as the CRO of Seattle startup Socrata, which was acquired by Tyler Technologies for $150 million in 2018.
Miszewski replaces founding CEO Todd Hoffmaster, who's stepping down from his role to "pursue other opportunities within the organization," the company said in a news release.
While he's spent time on the West Coast, Miszewski has roots in Wisconsin. A graduate of both University of Wisconsin ‒ Madison and Marquette University, Miszewski served as chief information officer for the State of Wisconsin from 2002 to 2007.
"It is my goal to show the world that Wisconsin is ground zero for technology startups," Miszewski said in a statement. "Madison is one of the most profitable cities in the country for venture capital to land due in part to the undeniable talent that Wisconsin universities put out each year. AkitaBox will take its place as the leading provider of facilities software."
Founded in 2015, AkitaBox creates software that allows building managers to keep track of the physical aspects of a building to ensure it's running as efficiently as possible. Its tech gathers information on mechanical, electrical, plumbing and other building issues and helps users with preventative maintenance and other improvements.
AkitaBox says it currently services over 250 million square feet of educational, commercial, healthcare and government facilities in the U.S.
