Chicago startup Farmer's Fridge, maker of a popular salad vending machine that dispenses healthy food options for people on the go, is expanding to Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport.
Farmer's Fridge announced last week that it's opened a machine in the "departures" food court before the security line. The company said it plans to open a second Fridge in concourse D next to gate 42 in the coming weeks.
The news comes as Farmer's Fridge has opened 40 locations across Milwaukee over the past two years. Its menu items include salads, grain bowls, sandwiches, wraps and other healthy snacks.
Founded in 2013, Farmer’s Fridge has raised more than $40 million in venture funding, and among its backers is Innovation Endeavors, a venture firm founded by ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt. Other Farmer's Fridge investors include Cleveland Avenue, a food-focused VC firm led by former McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson; Danone Manifesto Ventures, the investment arm of the yogurt brand; and Chicago’s Hyde Park Angels.
Along with Mitchell, its other Midwest airport locations include Chicago's O'Hare and Midway and Indianapolis International Airport.
