Redox, a Madison-based healthcare software startup, has appointed two executives to the company’s management team.

Joining the company are Elif Eracar and Ben Waugh. Eracar will serve as the company’s chief customer officer, while Waugh will take on the role of chief security officer.

Redox allows healthcare organizations to securely exchange patient data on its proprietary developer platform. The executive additions come on the heels of the startup's $33 million Series C funding round in April, making it one of the biggest financing rounds from a Wisconsin startup this year.

With venture backing, the company is on track to double its revenue in 2019, said Redox CEO Luke Bonney.

“At Redox, we’re helping to create a world where technology works for patients and providers,” Bonney said in a statement. “Elif and Ben bring an outstanding set of skills and knowledge as we continue to build strength in two critical areas of the business — customer success and service, and security. We continue to be focused on helping our customers integrate at scale with the confidence the healthcare data entrusted to them remain secure and private.”

Eracar will represent the more than 500 healthcare delivery organizations that use Redox to integrate and exchange 6 million patient records per day across 42 electronic health record vendors, the company said.

Before coming to Redox, Eracar spent more than 12 years at American Well, most recently serving as the telemedicine’s company senior vice president of professional services and customer support. Prior to American Well, she held roles at North America & EMEA and Voxware Inc. Eracar has also provided consulting services to notable companies such as the New Balance shoe company, Christmas Tree Shops, and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and information systems, and a master’s degree in information systems from Northeastern University.

Eracar said joining Redox comes at a pivotal time.

“The industry is working to create better policies around data exchange and interoperability,” she said. “Redox’s developer-first platform and network approach continues to drive value from our growing number of customers in the provider and vendor setors, and I see this upward momentum only getting stronger.”

As chief security officer, Waugh is responsible for building out Redox’s security infrastructure, and supporting companies in the company’s network with modern security capabilities.

While the company currently has HITRUST and SOC2 Type II certifications, the company says Waugh will work to improve the company’s risk-based security programs by implementing a zero-trust security model and a privacy-first approach.

Before heading up security at Redox, Waugh worked as the security architect at Twilio as the company evolved from a cloud communication platform to a publicly-traded company.

Prior to his tenure at Twilio, he transformed the application security programs for one of Australia’s largest financial institutions, building in-house solutions for automated security testing, security incident response, and vulnerability management.

“Now, more than ever, all organizations in the healthcare sector must make security job one to survive,” said Waugh. “As a company that offers a modern API for healthcare, Redox must protect the sensitive data flowing through our platform and to other devices, and ensure our security practices meet the public’s expectation for trust."
