Global Taiwanese electronics manufacturer and industrial automation company Foxconn Technology Group, which has its North American headquarters in downtown Milwaukee, has invested in a Texas startup that makes sensor technologies.

Foxconn led a $22 million Series A investment round in SigmaSense, an Austin-based startup that was previously known as 3AxisData, SigmaSense said in a press release. SigmaSense makes products that bring new finger and pen touch capabilities to tablets and smartphones.

Joining Foxconn in the investment round were Corning, E Ink, GIS and MIR. SigmaSense had funding rounds of $3.5 million and $2.9 million in 2019.

In addition to its own venture deals, Foxconn makes investments through Wisconn Valley Ventures, a $100 million fund backed with $25 million each from Foxconn, Johnson Controls International, Advocate Aurora Health and Northwestern Mutual.

The Taiwanese technology company is in the midst of completing two large manufacturing centers at its Mount Pleasant campus near Interstate 94 in Racine County. Foxconn intends to soon take occupancy of the 1 million-square-foot LCD screen facility in Mount Pleasant. It recently secured permits from the village to begin moving production equipment into about 300,000 square feet of that building.

The company is also building a 296,000-square-foot smart manufacturing facility and data center. That facility would operate under the umbrella of Foxconn Industrial Internet, or Fii.
