Fiveable chief experience officer Tán Ho recently gained a new title: Co-founder.

The company’s CEO and original founder Amanda DoAmaral asked Ho to become a co-founder in March 2021 during a conversation on the couch in their shared eastside apartment, Ho told the Milwaukee Business Journal on Friday.

"I don’t need that title, but it was meaningful when it happened," Ho said. “We always have been working on it together, but now it’s formalized.”

Ho said his responsibilities as chief experience officer will stay the same, but he’ll receive “a bump in equity” in the Milwaukee-based education technology startup as a result of the title change. He declined to share details about his equity stake.

“Tán has more than earned his right to be a co-founder due to his role in the company's genesis to its current explosive growth,” gener8tor co-founder Troy Vosseller said in an email. “Tán is and has been such an integral part of Fiveable and their success.”

Ho has been with Fiveable since its early days, joining in late 2018 as one of the company’s first employees. DoAmaral and Ho participated in gener8tor’s Madison-based accelerator program in spring 2019.

Fiveable had more than 600,000 users in March 2021 and has raised $4.2 million in venture funding since winter 2019, according to the company—including investments from Chelsea Clinton and most recently, Serena Williams.

Ho and DoAmaral have announced the news to Fiveable’s board and investors, and updated their titles on the company’s website and social media, Ho said. DoAmaral will remain the primary face of the company.
