Less than a month apart, local health-tech startup Spesana has inked strategic collaboration deals with organizations on both the East and West coasts.

Spesana provides a unified health record via its health care platform, to streamline care for patients across specialties.

In March, the Memphis-based company announced a partnership with San Diego-based CureMatch, which assists in the use of precision medicine to battle cancer by providing advanced molecular analysis to oncologists.

"For years, oncologists have sought a comprehensive precision medicine approach to patient care," said Spesana CEO Carla Balch, in a news release. "The integration of Spesana’s technology ecosystem with CureMatch’s profound insights empowers oncologists to tailor treatments precisely to each patient’s needs."

The collaborative relationship with CureMatch was followed by another partnership this month, this time with Miami-based HealthGates.

HealthGates has developed a digital platform for prior authorization to allow for the potential of life-saving treatments in oncology and immunotherapy being approved more quickly.

Spesana noted in a separate news release that the deal involved finding "the right treatment for the right patient at the right time," and "an inflection point in how actionable data will be used by clinicians and care providers to drive more effective and efficient care."

A goal of the partnership is to break down "silos and archaic workflows" in medicine, Spesana said.

“We’re firmly committed to driving better patient outcomes by enabling providers to receive quick approvals on treatments needed to save lives. With impending federal and state level legislation for prior authorization, our focus is on patient-centric interoperability, connecting the five key stakeholders: patients, providers, payors, pharma, and specialty pharmacies," said HealthGates COO Gary Markham, in the release. "We strongly believe that a treatment delayed is a treatment denied. The collaboration between HealthGates and Spesana is a major step forward in achieving this goal.”
