Bartlett-based SurgePays’ board of directors has appointed Jeremy Gies as president of the publicly traded company.

In that role, Gies will be responsible for driving sales growth, optimizing operational efficiencies, leading the launch of new products, and exploring strategic merger and acquisition opportunities. He joined the company in October 2022, when he was appointed president of SurgePays’ Fintech division.

Other new duties for Gies include a convenience store network expansion nationwide, with a goal of increasing the quantity of stores transacting on the SurgePays network and sales per store. SurgePays is a technology and telecommunications company centered on the underbanked and underserved.

“2024 will be a year in which the company is laser-focused on growing sales, store count, and wireless subscribers. Jeremy's corporate experience will be leaned on to build out those sales operations and other processes to maximize revenue realization from our growth,” said Brian Cox, SurgePays chairman and CEO, in a statement. “In addition, Jeremy will look at other growth opportunities through potential mergers and acquisitions and partnerships. I couldn't be more excited to add another driven, subject-matter expert to the team."

According to SurgePays, Gies’ base salary will be $180,000, “which may be increased by 6% per annum if the company meets certain EBITDA requirements,” according to an SEC filing.

Before joining SurgePays, Gies served as senior channel business manager and senior account manager for Honeywell Voice Solutions for close to four years. He also previously was COO of Tiercel Wireless, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) on the Sprint network.

Gies co-founded and is a partner of Blue Horizon Group, a business consulting company providing outsourced sales, business development, marketing, distribution, operations, and logistics services to the wireless industry.

Other roles for Gies included being VP of business development for Wave Crest Payment Services, a global e-payments company. He also served as EVP and later CEO of telSPACE, a provider of billing and back-office solutions for the MVNO/NVNE marketplace. His career began at AT&T Wireless, where he rose from early sales positions to national sales manager over a 10-year period.
