ProTech Services Group is partnering with Tech901 to replace old computers with newer, high-quality ones and additional accessories for one of the largest medical providers in the Mid-South.

ProTech, a Memphis-area technology provider and business consulting firm, is working with Tech901, a technology training nonprofit, on a three-year project to remove and replace all the computers for the medical provider.

For Dan Weddle, president and CEO of ProTech, this is a continuation of the ongoing partnership with Tech901. He knew his company would get great candidates to help them fulfill this project.

“Knowing that this was a project where more entry-type [jobs] were going to be involved, I got the idea we should utilize our partnership with Tech901," Weddle said. "I know they train [them] on [what we need]. I thought my chances of reducing my turnover would be a lot less, and that has really been the case. We have minimized turnover [by] using so many of the Tech901 candidates for the project. We have a great relationship.”

Weddle added more than 30 professionals — mostly from Tech901 — who are helping to remove and replace the computers for the medical provider, whose name his firm couldn't disclose.

The ProTech-Tech901 team could be at one of the medical provider's facilities from weeks to six months, depending on its size. As part of the final step of installing the equipment, the team will start up the new computers and connect them to the medical network to make sure they can be properly operated.

Tech901 was founded in 2015 with the mission of training the Memphis-area workforce to meet local IT hiring needs by developing a pipeline to place potential workers in open positions.

The two partners have worked together on other projects in the past and as part of this new contract will also take all used computer equipment at the facilities to ER2, an electronics recycling partner in Memphis.

“Tech901 strives to be the first place Memphians go to start a technology career,” said Aaron Lamey, Tech901 executive director, in a statement. “ProTech was one of our earliest and most vocal supporters. Dan and his team have launched the careers of several of our graduates. Their willingness to hire certified, entry-level talent is exactly the kind of partnership we know makes the difference for the local IT industry.”

Weddle also spoke to the importance of Tech901’s role in Memphis and opportunities like this partnership to help grow tech professionals locally.

“We work directly with our clients to help find candidates, and we find that working with workforce development partners like Tech901 are absolutely critical for the success of Memphis, the success of continued workforce development, and having qualified candidates to place,” Weddle said.
