The Crews Center for Entrepreneurship launched in 2013 at the University of Memphis with a goal to "inspire, educate, and support both aspiring and active student entrepreneurs." The center is part of the U of M's Fogelman College of Business and Economics.

Leading that charge was Michael Hoffmeyer, an entrepreneur and the Crews Center's founding director. Now, the U of M is seeking a new director for their hub of entrepreneurship after Hoffmeyer's departure in May.

His work at the U of M attracted the attention of the University of Maryland, which hired Hoffmeyer to be managing director of that university's Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship. In 2022, the Dingman Center landed a top-10 ranking among schools of entrepreneurship in the U.S.

The U of M has posted a job listing for the Crews Center director role, which closes Nov. 15. The university seeks a professional with "experience in technology-based startups, startup incubators or pre-incubators, or executive management in early-state growth technology startups."

The new director would provide leadership for the Crews Center, including resource stewardship, program promotion, and staff management, according to the job posting. More specific duties include day-to-day coaching and advising of startups; fostering relationships with angel and institutional investors; conducting and teaching incubator workshop programming; and identifying, recruiting, and coordinating with mentors, advisors, and experts assisting incubator participants, among other tasks.
