An Italian company with operations in Bartlett has added new cutting-edge technology — and jobs.

The additions are part of Lincotek Medical’s $10 million investment in the facility at 3110 Stage Post Drive, doubling its manufacturing space to 25,000 square feet. The company announced the capital investment in 2019.

Lincotek Medical — formerly Surface Dynamics — provides spray coatings and other additives to original equipment manufacturers (OEM)’s medical devices. And, Lincotek’s business has continued to grow, even in a pandemic.

“Despite the unique challenges in 2020 posed by COVID-19, the Lincotek Medical team has continued its strong support for OEMs with multiple successful product launches for both coatings and additive manufacturing,” said Gennaro D’Andrea, Lincotek Medical’s general manager.

In March 2021, Lincotek announced it had implemented specialized, automated pieces of equipment in Bartlett to increase its coating capacity.

The company added a CAPS intercooler, Air Plasma Spray (APS) equipment, and an automatic sandblasting machine. Lincotek said the new equipment’s process control allows for consistent quality coatings.

A Lincotek spokesperson said bringing the new equipment online resulted in 10 additional staff in Bartlett. The firm currently employs about 90 locally, and projects nearing 100 by year’s end. Lincotek had about 80 staff in Bartlett at the end of 2019.

The firm has an in-house metallurgical lab to support production quality, and several laser-based additive manufacturing machines.

Additive service offerings include 3D printing of medical devices.

The global thermal spray coatings market is projected to reach $13.6 billion by 2027 — with a compound annual growth rate of about 4% — according to market research firm Research and Markets.

Lincotek — the parent company of Lincotek Medical — is based in Trento, Italy, and has 16 production facilities in Europe, North America, and Asia, employing more than 1,100.
