Here’s what was pitched — and who won — at the CareTech competition

Two startups were selected as the winners for an international pitch competition hosted in Louisville last week.

The competition was held as part of the Optimize conference, hosted by Aging 2.0 and CEOc — the Louisville Healthcare CEO Council. The two-day event, held at Churchill Downs, focused on using tech to improve the outcomes of older adults and optimizing aging care.

The top spots went to Gazelle and Care Daily.

Gazelle, founded by Loren Anthes, is a health care interface used for patients, providers and payers using interoperate tools and a blockchain solution. It allows patients to own their own data and know who is accessing it and when.

Its mission is to improve patient outcomes by eliminating barriers to this data.

Care Daily is a Palo, Alto, California-based platform which brings artificial intelligence (AI) assistants to physical spaces. The software allows an AI caregiver — named Cody, though his name can be changed — to watch patients for a long time and detect when something goes wrong and connect the patient’s families.

The winners will be part of a pilot program through CEOc. The organization has completed several pilots, which allows certain tech to be deployed and tested before it goes to market. Some of its previous pilots included Famileo, a website and app to help residents in long term care facilities with loneliness and isolation, which was launched in more than 200 nursing homes and long-term care facilities, I previously reported.

The six other startups included in the pitch competition were Anavah Health, HealthHive, PBC, HealthLink Dimensions LLC, Medly, Pluto Health and Vironix Health.
