A Northern Kentucky firm that was recently purchased has opened an innovation lab in Erlanger.

Advanced Handling Systems, a provider of integrated fulfillment and distribution solutions within the supply chain, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the 20,000-square-foot lab Wednesday night.

In total, the lab represents a $500,000 investment and helped spur the creation of 35 high-paying jobs, according to a news release. It features a variety of robotics to streamline the company's efforts, including autonomous mobile robots and collaborative robotic arms.

"The environment in Northern Kentucky and the growth in logistics led us to locate our innovation lab near our corporate office," Dave Tavel Sr., AHS' vice president of sales, said in a statement. "The future of our industry will rely on the emerging technologies that we integrate, test and evaluate within our lab."

AHS did not receive state incentives to help fund the renovation, but it did receive Erlanger's EDGE Incentive, which provides a reimbursement of one-third of its payroll tax for a 10-year period.

Earlier this year, AHS was purchased by Columbus-based Hy-Tek Holdings for undisclosed terms. Hy-Tek employs 550 people throughout its 10 U.S. locations. The company plans to continue hiring throughout the remainder of 2022.

Previously based in Cincinnati, AHS moved its corporate headquarters to Northern Kentucky in February 2021. The company employed more than 65 people at that time.
