Four attorneys have recently joined Stites & Harbison's Intellectual Property & Technology (IPT) Service Group.

Warren D. Schickli and Michael S. Hargis join Stites & Harbison PLLC as members (partners) while Trevor T. Graves and Patrick M. Torre join the firm as counsel from King & Schickli PLLC. The attorneys will be based at Stites & Harbison's Lexington, Kentucky, office.

The four added attorneys bring experience in patents, trademarks, copyrights, intellectual property litigation, trade secrets and Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) oppositions and cancellations. They also bring backgrounds in mechanical, electrical, and chemical engineering, chemistry, animal science and agriculture, according to a news release.

“We have been interested in having the attorneys from King & Schickli join our firm for some time,” said Marjorie A. Farris, firm chair, in the release. “The timing was right for all involved, and we are very excited to have these highly regarded attorneys be a part of our Lexington office. We have one of the largest IP practices in the state and the addition of these four stellar attorneys better positions Stites & Harbison to have the premiere intellectual property practice across the Commonwealth.”

Stites & Harbison’s IPT Service Group counsels and represents clients in securing, managing and litigating intellectual property rights. The IPT Group now has 22 attorneys across its footprint.

“Coming out of the pandemic, we started seeing a real need by our clients for additional legal services besides intellectual property,” said Schickli. “Stites & Harbison is one of the most respected full-service firms in the state. Their robust platform will only better help us service clients. We are excited to join the firm.”

Both Schickli and Graves have backgrounds in chemistry. Schickli earned his B.A. in chemistry from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, prior to earning his J.D. from the University of Kentucky (UK). Graves earned his B.S. in chemical engineering from UK prior to earning his J.D. from UK.

Hargis earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from UK prior to becoming a lawyer. He earned his J.D. from Saint Louis University School of Law. Torre’s background includes a Ph.D. in animal science and an M.S. from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville as well as a B.S. in agriculture from the University of Tennessee at Martin. He later earned his J.D. from UK.
