Louisville-based Poplar Ventures has promoted from within for an executive role.
The early-stage venture capital firm, which is focused on investing in recurring revenue cloud-based software companies, has announced the promotion of Christian Miller to principal, according to a news release.
Miller will report to John Willmoth, founder and managing partner at Poplar Ventures.
“Christian came to us with a solid understanding of the investing process and we liked the fact that he has roots in this area,” Willmoth said in the release. “He has very quickly established himself as an excellent thought partner in our efforts to identify and build great technology companies here in middle America.”
Miller currently leads Poplar’s deal sourcing, due diligence and market outreach initiatives, the release stated. He also plays a key role in investor reporting and supporting Poplar’s portfolio companies. Miller currently serves as a board observer for Poplar’s investment in Dvinci Inc. As part of the promotion, Miller will take a more active role in deal leadership and overall portfolio management.
“I’ve truly enjoyed working and learning alongside John as we establish Poplar as one of the leading venture capital firms in the region,” Miller said in the release. “There is a lot of momentum behind Poplar right now. I am excited to further create value for our investors, entrepreneurs and partners in my new role as principal.”
Prior to joining Poplar, Miller worked in private equity at TRP Capital Partners and venture capital at Purdue Ventures. He received his bachelor's degree in economics and business from Bellarmine University and his MBA from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
In August 2020, Poplar Ventures announced Miller's hiring as an associate.
