Health-tech firm PreventScripts is looking to grow following its latest capital raise.

The Paducah, Kentucky-based startup has secured a $1.5 million round of funding, according to a news release, led by venture capital firms Keyhorse Capital and iSelect Fund, with participation from angel investors.

PreventScripts’ remote monitoring app allows physicians to follow a patient’s progress in between doctor visits, tracking metrics such as blood pressure, weight, blood sugar and body mass index. The information then sync’s with a clinicians’ workflow, enabling the physician to monitor patient results and call them if lifestyle changes are needed.

The fresh capital will accelerate PreventScripts’ growth in its core markets, the release said, including Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Mississippi, Ohio, Georgia and Alabama, where metabolic diseases are common.

"PreventScripts isn't just another tech solution; it's a necessary response to a pressing public health challenge,” said Kelby Price, managing partner at Keyhorse Capital, in the release. “We believe in their vision and support their journey to create meaningful change."

The funding is significant for a Kentucky-based health care startup, as the $1.5 million round would have ranked as one of the 15th-largest venture capital raises in the Louisville-area last year for all industries, according to Louisville Business First research.

PreventScripts previously raised $295,000 in pre-seed round from the Commonwealth Seed Fund, Bluegrass Angels and the Kentucky Enterprise Fund, among others.

The startup was founded by former primary care pediatrician Natalie Davis, who is now the company’s chief medical officer, CEO Brandi Harless and Chief Technology Officer Jay Campbell.

"It's undeniable that we're facing a healthcare tsunami in the form of metabolic diseases and diabetes,” Harless said in the release. “At the same time, primary care providers are burned out and patients aren’t focused on prevention. PreventScripts is the preventive health platform that reconnects providers to their calling and motivates patients to go from uninspired to active and healthy.

"Through our science-backed digital tool that assesses and monitors at-risk patients, we encourage behavioral changes while offering reimbursable tools providers want and patients need.”
