What’s been your strategy on investing in startups as many VCs have pulled back in 2023? Selectiveness and supporting existing investments.

What kind of deals are you interested in? Businesses that add value to industries by solving problems through innovation — led by founders who are focused, yet willing to listen.

What’s one thing you always look for in a pitch? Thoughtful, detailed plans to develop and grow a business. Specific breakdowns of the use of funds and related outcomes.

Tell us about one of your portfolio companies that is doing well. GoodMaps. As an investor and board participant, it’s been exciting to watch GoodMaps’ dynamic growth led by a developing management team. I expect GoodMaps to be the next significant Louisville success story.

What’s a Kentucky company you’ve been keeping your eye on? HANDLE Global. Great trajectory, poster-child founder, recently completed a round of funding.

Best piece of advice for startups that are fundraising right now? Patience. Capital is available. Always remember when a potential investor is considering funding your business, not only are they looking at your company, but others [as] well.
