How did you get into the career you have today?

I’ve always been a storyteller, and after trying to express myself through various art forms, videography became my way of communicating ideas and thoughts that I had. I saw a lack of high quality and creative video production in Louisville and believed that I could compete with large local production companies if I built my skills and positioned myself correctly. I didn’t have any real experience in a production company, but I just trusted my gut and went all in to form my own company with two other creatives.

What’s one thing Kentucky can do to improve its tech and/or startup ecosystem?

I think one thing that will really help is Startup Week Louisville, and other events like it. We need more spaces for random collisions to happen between different industries, specifically creative industries. We have so many spaces that are solely tech focused, and so everyone in tech is surrounded by everyone else in tech.

I think when truly great things happen though is when there is a cross pollination of people, industries, ideas, etc. We need spaces for musicians, artists, designers, etc. to connect with startups and like industries.

Who has been one of your top mentors?

My grandfather, Jack Guthrie, founded Guthrie Mayes PR and ran the Derby Festival for a time. All my life, wherever we went, he knew everyone who was anyone. He taught me the power of relationships and was a great launch pad for me getting my name out into the city.

What’s something about you that people might not know?

I was homeschooled until the fifth grade. My social skills were WAY behind my age for a long time. But if you spoke to me now, you would never know.

What’s one thing you want to accomplish before turning 30? Before I turn 30, I plan to have a contract with a brand like Nike, or Chanel to produce an ad campaign.
