Explain what your company does: Active Therapy Systems provides online exercise classes and virtual physical therapy with remote patient monitoring for people with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis and early Alzheimer’s. Through telehealth and tailored on-demand sessions, we are able reduce the burdens of time, travel and costs that are associated with the traditional methods of PT. We monitor our patient’s performance and physiological data with in-home devices that allow us to personalize each therapy session, allowing us to better monitor disease progression and to help their neurologist make more informed clinical decisions, aiding in the overall care of each person.

What are some major milestones in the company’s history?

  • We’ve been awarded two National Science Foundation Grants (2018 & 2021)
  • We’ve been awarded two Kentucky Matching Funds Awards (2019 & 2021)
  • Completed LaunchBlue (2020)
  • We launched Total HealthWorks in 2020, which now provides online exercise classes and on-demand workouts to 180 paid members
  • Completed XLerateHealth (2021)

What is your company working on right now?

  • We are expanding our Total HealthWorks online exercise class options to also include specific programs for those with M.S. and for those with memory and cognitive issues, allowing us to increase our current customer base – Q1 2022
  • We are currently progressing with product development in preparation to launch two pilot studies to test our technology in the Parkinson’s and M.S. populations, with an anticipated commercial launch in Q3 of 2022
  • We are currently raising a pre-seed round of $850,000 that will allow us to progress development and improve our infrastructure to commercially launch our technology later this year

What’s on the horizon for your company in 2022?

Our motto has always been to “help more people” and we believe that over this next year, we will be able to positively impact and help many of those in need through our technology and virtual therapies. We have an ambitious road map ahead of us this year and we are looking forward to the journey!

Why grow your company from Kentucky?

Kentucky is a great place to launch. There is a ton of talent between the coasts with all of the universities and smaller colleges that are here and we have been able to build and grow relationships within the entrepreneurial community that have really helped us get to where we are today. We’ve been fortunate to work with two Kentucky-based startup accelerators, LaunchBlue and XLerateHealth. The mentorship and guidance that I’ve received going through those two programs and the relationships that have carried beyond have helped us go from just an idea to a revenue generating and growing company.
