Fisker Inc. said it has more than 40,000 orders for its new Fisker Ocean sport utility vehicle.

The Los Angeles company (NYSE: FSR) said that's up from the 30,000 orders it said it had for the model as of Feb. 14, and up from 18,600 orders it said it had as of its third-quarter earnings call in November 2021. The company said that "many reservation holders intend to purchase the Fisker Ocean One launch edition or Fisker Ocean Extreme models, both priced at $68,999."

The company said that it will open pre-order reservations for purchase of the limited edition Fisker Ocean One SUV to current reservation holders on July 1. Fisker said it plans on building only 5,000 limited edition Fisker Ocean One vehicles, beginning in November.

"Given the elevated level of interest in the Fisker Ocean One and Fisker Ocean Extreme, Fisker believes it will potentially sell out capacity through most of 2023 with purchase orders of our premium models," the company said.

“Our goal is to be completely transparent with our customers. We don’t want reservation holders who expect to purchase a Fisker Ocean One to be disappointed, so we are providing them now with the opportunity to secure their vehicle," CEO Henrik Fisker said in a statement.

Fisker unveiled its Ocean SUV in November. The vehicle is built by Magna-Steyr at factory in Graz, Austria. The all-wheel drive Ocean One and Ocean Extreme models have a range of 350 miles, Fisker says on its website.

Fisker also plans on making an Ocean Ultra model ($49,999, with a range of 340 miles) and an Ocean Sport model ($39,999, with a range of 250 miles).

"Given the high degree of interest in the Fisker Ocean SUV premium models, it is likely that Fisker Ocean Sport production will not commence until late 2023, initially at modest volumes, with higher volumes expected in 2024," Fisker said.
