Jacksonville was named the eightieth best city to found a startup, according to a new study of major metros across the country.

As the study notes, most new businesses fail, so ensuring you are in a location that will give you the best start is a must.

The study, by Real Estate Witch, a data research firm, analyzed publicly available data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Economic Analysis, Bureau of Labor Statistics, UpCounsel, Google Trends, U.S. Patent Office, and the American Legislative Exchange Council Center for State Fiscal Reform.

The study ranked information such as number of business licenses applications, filing fees, tax rates, number of patents filed, among others.

While it is of little surprise to natives, the study ranked Florida among the top states to start a business, with four cities in the top 10.

Placing ahead of Jacksonville at rank 8, was Orlando at No. 3, Miami at No. 4 and Tampa at No. 6.

"The last — but by no means least — Florida city in our top 15, Jacksonville is an ideal place to start a business. Inexpensive business costs and a low corporate tax rate (4.46%) attract entrepreneurs who want to pocket more profit and reinvest in future growth opportunities," according to the report.

The report also notes Jacksonville is No. 8 for most business applications per capita (7,695) and is tied for the lowest corporate tax rate (4.46%).
