Houston-based school safety technology provider Raptor Technologies LLC announced an acquisition and new financing on Oct. 5.

Raptor Technologies paid an undisclosed amount to acquire U.K.-based software firm CPOMS, which develops an online system to safeguard students and improve student outcomes by documenting incidents of abuse, cyberbullying and other issues.

The Houston-based firm develops K-12 school software offerings for visitor, volunteer and emergency management used by more than 35,000 schools in the U.S. Raptor Technologies is led by CEO Gray Hall, who previously served as chief executive of Houston-based cybersecurity firm Alert Logic.

"Combining CPOMS software and domain expertise with Raptor further advances our mission to protect every child, every school, every day," said Hall. "We are eager to bring the proven capabilities of CPOMS to the U.S. market and continue advancing CPOMS leadership position in the U.K."

John Wild, currently managing director of CPOMS, is joining Raptor as managing director of U.K. operations for Raptor and CPOMS, the company said.

Along with the acquisition, Raptor also secured a new round of financing led by private equity investment firm Thoma Bravo. The financing round also saw participation from existing investors JMI Equity and Ares Capital, Raptor said.

"Through this investment and acquisition, we see tremendous potential for Raptor to extend its market leadership in K-12 school safety and its continued deployment of innovative solutions to schools in the U.S. and U.K.," said Thoma Bravo Principal Adam Solomon.

Thoma Bravo, which has offices in Chicago, San Francisco and Miami, has two other Houston-based portfolio companies: energy industry software-maker Quorum Software and workplace management tech firm iOffice.

Hall was brought on to lead Raptor late last year. He took over Raptor's leadership roles from Jim Vesterman, who had led the firm since 2012. Hall served as CEO of Alert Logic from 2009 to 2018, growing the cybersecurity firm from less than $10 million in annual revenue to over $125 million in revenue.
