Denver's TruKno Launches Curated Cybersecurity Search Platform

For the last year, Manish Kapoor and his team have interviewed hundreds of cybersecurity professionals from across industries, searching for the answer to one question.

If you want to understand the top 100 cyberthreats right now, where would you go to find that information?

A Google search would prove ineffective, Kapoor said, as current search engine results are too general and have become skewed by SEO manipulation, paid advertising and changing algorithms.

The answers he’s received all share a similar thread.

“They all answered something along this line, ‘that’s an unfair question, because that info is so broad it can’t exist in one place,’” he said.

“Why is it unfair if this is one of the biggest threats facing humanity,” Kapoor continued.

So, Kapoor and his team created TruKno, a curated search platform for cybersecurity, that gathers critical cyber information and experts in one place.

The Denver-based company launched the beta version of the platform this month, after nearly two years of developing the technology.

TruKno combines access to niche experts with the latest attack vectors, breach data, mitigation practices, innovative solutions and associated vendors to equip cybersecurity professionals with the necessary information to contend with the constantly changing threat landscape.

The TruKno search platform currently includes more than 20,000 items and more content is added daily.

Kapoor said the company realizes the mass amount of data available to cybersecurity professionals and wanted to ensure it wasn’t adding to that already overflowing well.

“The world does not need more raw data, we need more context,” he said.

The company provides a dashboard that shows users imminent threats sorted by the latest breaches, allowing them to understand what root cause vectors are actually causing the most number of attacks.

“You can go down the list and see what threat caused the latest breaches,” Kapoor said.

The 10-person team is global, with the most concentrated group of employees here in Denver. Kapoor said the company will be hiring AI experts and security analysts as they continue to grow.

Given the increased number of people working from home as a result of COVID-19, Kapoor said trusted cybersecurity information will be at a premium.

He expects an increase in cyber breaches with fewer people working from trusted company networks.

“It’s exposing a lot of other things they were usually protected from because they were working on their corporate network,” he said.

TruKno is using this beta release to gather as much user feedback as possible, as it continues to iterate on its product.

“The world has so much raw data in cybersecurity, that is not what we’re after,” he said. “We are after context, to help you find the right information in the least amount of time.”
