Tracking down life’s most important documents, from your insurance policies to your birth certificate, can be a challenge. Especially when a family emergency causes you to frantically search for them.

Maybe they are in a safe, a folder or just thrown on a shelf somewhere. One Denver-based startup wants to bring all of your most important documents online, in a secure platform that empowers you to stay organized.

“On average, a person has seventy-five important life documents on paper, housed in various locations,” said LifeFilez CEO Beth Krauklis. “Our goal has always been to create an intelligent platform that allows real-time decisions concerning life’s most vital documents.”

LifeFilez, which was founded in 2015 in Nashville, currently operates on a manual upload process, collecting documents on a secure platform, complete with encryption services typically used by banks and medical institutions. The company recently relocated its headquarters to Denver, working out of RiNo healthcare hub Catalyst. LifeFilez currently charges $5.99 a month to use the platform, though the company is moving to a freemium model.

“There is a usability issue, a human factor issue, we are all busy and we don’t think about these documents until we absolutely need them,” Krauklis said.

LifeFilez allows its customers to share documents and grant access to other users, like family members and attorneys.

“Working in a hospital setting, I have seen time and time again the desperation felt by those who have lost a loved one or are losing a loved one and the attempt to get affairs in order but unsure where to look,” said Dr. Paul Davidson. “I think this is an incredibly viable solution to empower family members to make critical decisions.”

The company recently announced that it has relocated its headquarters to Denver, working out of RiNo healthcare hub, Catalyst HTI. Krauklis said the company has also opened its first round of funding, seeking $1.5 million to further build out the platform and develop an app.

As LifeFilez expands the platform, Krauklis said they aim to automate the document storage process, focusing on partnerships to make that possible. In addition, LifeFilez will look to provide updates to customers when documents need to be renewed or important dates are coming up.

The company plans to make three executive hires within its new Denver office and will continue a three-city investor tour with trips to Chicago and Nashville.
