With a new office, Denver bed maker plans to nearly double team (Photos)

A Denver-based smart bed manufacturer is snuggling up in a new, upgraded office.

Although Cubby Beds moved into the new space nearly one month ago, CEO and founder Caleb Polley already has his eyes set on growth and expansion.

Cubby Beds, which develops smart safety beds for people with disabilities and special needs, recently moved into a newly renovated 6,500-square-foot office space at The Amp at 1580 Logan St. The new space (shown in the photos above) offers seven conference rooms of various sizes, a maternity room and several lounges and communal workspaces. There's also a shared kitchen and two Cubby Beds — one for product testing and the other for demonstrations and creating marketing content in-house.

Before moving to The Amp, Cubby Beds had to book a studio to create marketing content, Polley said because space was limited at the company's previous 3,100-square-foot office on Blake Street.

The company plans to nearly double its headcount from 25 to at least 40 people within the next year. This includes hiring for executive positions, such as a CFO, people leader, VP of revenue and growth and reimbursement leader, and a new position and department for Cubby Beds.

Polley said Cubby Beds recently hired a community manager and plans to have the CFO role filled in three weeks.

At capacity and without the beds, Cubby Beds' new office can hold up to 60 employees. Polley thinks the company will take on additional space at The Amp before reaching capacity.

He said this summer the company has rights to an additional 4,000-square-foot studio on the same floor as Cubby Beds' office.

"It would depend on how hiring is over the next nine to 12 months," Polley said. "We would have to have pretty clear lines of sight to growth to do that, but I think that's the nice thing about even just moving to a bigger building. ... Even if we don't take that one, we could probably get another floor, another unit or move within the building and have less costs."

Polley launched Cubby Beds in March 2020 and has since shipped hundreds of beds to customers in all 50 states. The company is currently working with a team at Harvard University to conduct a cost analysis. It is also partnering with Colorado-based health care providers to conduct clinical surveys and focus groups to show the value of the Cubby Beds product.

In addition to the company's hiring initiatives, it plans to redesign its tech hub, bed frame and canopy. Expected to launch in mid to late summer, this new bed will make assembly and shipping easier, Polley said.

Cubby Beds' beds are currently designed for people with disabilities and special needs such as autism, down syndrome and sensory processing disorder. The bed was recently used by a Colorado-based patient with dementia, allowing them to age in place, Polley said. Patients with dementia are a new customer base Cubby Beds plans to look into in the next one to two years, Polley said.
