Sustainable shoe company Allbirds has opened its first Denver storefront this week and second in Colorado.
The Denver store is located at 3000 E 1st Ave. inside the Cherry Creek Shopping Center, joining the company’s Boulder storefront that opened in April. Allbirds now has 34 stores around the world.
The company makes footwear out of Merino wool, sugar cane and trees, with shoes selling for between $100 and $135.
In addition to selling its products out of the new location, Allbirds said the new 2,904-square-foot space in Cherry Creek “speaks to the brand’s sustainable focus.”
“Customers can see the carbon footprint of each product clearly displayed – a first for the fashion and footwear industry, and a hallmark of Allbirds’s approach to sustainability,” the company said in a statement.
Allbirds was founded in 2015 by former New Zealand soccer player Tim Brown and tech entrepreneur Joey Zwillinger, and has quickly become popular among the Silicon Valley tech community.
The company announced a $100 million Series E funding in September 2020 that brought its valuation to reportedly $1.7 billion. To date, Allbirds has raised more than $202 million, per Crunchbase.
According to Silicon Valley Business Journal, the company is set to go public this fall after filing paperwork with the SEC at the end of August. In the filing, Allbirds detailed its recent history of losses, posting a net loss of $25.86 million on revenue of $219.3 million in 2020.
The company’s S1 filing also revealed that it is planning to rapidly expand its retail footprint. Allbirds has "just scratched the surface of our store potential," it said in the filing, and is planning to open hundreds of locations in the future.
Locally, Allbirds’ founders were part of a group of investors in Yaguara’s $7.2 million seed round in March 2020. Denver-based Yaguara helps e-commerce and retail businesses track and meet growth goals with an online dashboard.
Its $7.2 million seed round was led by Jonathan Ehrlich at Foundation Capital, with participation from Gradient, Rainfall Ventures, and Zelkova, as well as the founders of Warby Parker, Harry’s, Allbirds and a former C-level executive from Glossier.
