A smart drug delivery system and an all-electric, self-driving lawnmower company were among 37 startups that received funding as part of the latest Colorado Advanced Industries Accelerator Grant Program.

A total of $7,657,811 was approved for Proof-of-Concept and Early Stage Capital and Retention Grants to fuel the growth of Colorado’s advanced industries, which include things like advanced manufacturing, aerospace, bioscience and electronics.

“The Advanced Industries grants expand Colorado’s vital innovation ecosystem that supports our economic growth,” Katie Woslager, senior manager of Advanced Industries, said in a statement. “These innovative companies create jobs and leverage additional investment in Colorado, and are even more important as the nation focuses on economic recovery.”

The Advanced Industries Accelerator Programs were created in 2013 to promote growth and sustainability in Colorado’s advanced industries by driving innovation, accelerating commercialization, encouraging public-private partnerships, increasing access to early-stage capital and creating a strong infrastructure to increase the state’s capacity to be globally competitive. Last year, the program handed out $5.2 million in grants to 24 startups.

The program received 100 applications this cycle, and applications were reviewed by committees of business, technical and financial experts, as well as an industry-specific reviewer.
