Colorado's tech employment is growing and, according to the recent Cyberstates report by CompTIA, that growth isn't slowing down anytime soon.
Colorado ranked only No. 15 in net tech employment overall, with an estimated 306,000 tech jobs. However, in terms of jobs added between 2018 and 2019, the state came in at No. 9, with a gain of more than 10,000 jobs.
The report anticipates that growth trend to continue, projecting that Colorado will add nearly 45,000 tech jobs in the next 10 years, a 25 percent increase from the current employment mark. That percentage growth was good for third largest in the country, behind only Nevada and Utah.
Unsurprisingly, California, Texas, New York and Florida topped the net tech employment and job growth charts. But, the report said that 46 states generated positive tech employment growth in 2019.
"While the largest job gains are associated with the states with a significant tech presence, the fact that most states experienced tech employment job gains speaks to the broad-based impact of technology across the nation," the report stated.
Colorado also received high marks on the report's innovation rank, which is based on VC investment and the volume of tech startup activity. The state slotted in just behind California, Texas, New York and Florida at the No. 5 spot.
While Colorado is often touted for its work-life balance and quality of life, the state also ranks well in tech wages, with the estimated median tech wage of $92,251 coming in 92 percent higher than the median state wage.
Overall, Colorado's tech employment accounts for 10.5 percent of the state's overall workforce, with jobs in IT and custom software services, engineering services and telecommunications and Internet services leading the way.
