After more than two decades in Denver, software development firm Spire Digital announced Friday that it has been acquired by London's Kin + Carta.

In a post on the company's website, founder Mike Gellman said the acquisition allows Spire to grow more quickly than if it remained independent.

"I really couldn’t be more excited about this acquisition (and I’m not just saying that)," he wrote. "Kin + Carta shares our values, they have a focus on employees, they have a diverse set of offerings that will complement ours and they will allow us to stay boutique while having international impact."

Spire has more than 100 employees in Denver with an expertise in technical design, development, software, engineering and product strategy.

After weighing suitors, Spire President Adam Hasemeyer said Kin + Carta was the perfect fit to help expand the company.

"We've grown Spire significantly in recent years and have established a strong reputation in the western U.S. DX market. To realize our fullest potential, we recognized that we needed a partner with deeper resources and a broad geographic reach. We scouted the market from the largest global firms to niche players and decided on Kin + Carta as the perfect choice for Spire. We identify closely with the spirit of entrepreneurialism and agility that we found there and are excited to reach new heights as a part of this impressive organization," he said in a statement.

Hasemeyer and COO Nick Coppolo will remain as Spire senior management and Gellman will shift into an executive chairman role as he continues to advise the company.

The acquisition supports Kin + Carta's expansion in the western United States and supports the growth of its innovation pillar, the largest and fastest-growing part of the business.

"The acquisition of Spire Digital is directly in line with our growth strategy, delivering a strategic foothold in the western United States with a best-in-class software design and engineering capability that adds to our fast growing innovation pillar," Kin + Carta CEO J Schwan said in a statement. "Spire has a strong reputation of delivering highly innovative solutions and building a winning culture that's hard to find."

Spire will continue to be based out of Denver, and will support clients globally as the firm begins to collaborate with Kin + Carta. The acquisition is subject to closing conditions, which are expected to be satisfied by Dec. 31.
