With 227 acres of medical campus, the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus can be difficult to navigate without a map.
A new partnership with Denver-based Concept3D will allow visitors, patients and prospective job candidates to navigate the campus with an 18-stop virtual tour.
Concept3D, which launched in 2006, develops and implements 3D modeling, interactive maps and virtual tour software at convention centers and event spaces, healthcare and retirement facilities, hotels, theme parks and universities across the country.
The company's tour of the Anschutz Medical Campus is VR-enabled and uses high-quality 360-degree panoramic images that provide a look into the campus with stops including the CU School of Medicine, School of Dental Medicine, College of Nursing, Colorado School of Public Health, Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Strauss Health Sciences Library, CU Anschutz Health and Wellness Center and the Gates Biomanufacturing Facility.
"CU Anschutz is a beautiful medical campus and has a lot of different departments to showcase. The new virtual tour is a powerful way to bring all this together in a single location so people, regardless of where they are located, can explore and learn more," said Concept3D CEO Gordon Boyes in a statement.
The virtual reality mode can be toggled on and off, providing accessibility to the tour for those with or without VR hardware.
This is the company's largest 360-degree tour by stops, with each stop accompanied by informational text and audio narration, as well as an expandable mini-map that shows the tour location on campus.
The virtual tour is integrated with CU Anschutz's interactive campus map, allowing users to find buildings, food, parking, on-campus and public transportation, student resources and more.
This announcement comes two weeks after Concept3D announced that it has integrated Penn State's University Park campus onto the platform. Penn State's main University Park campus spans nearly 8,000 acres, all of which is mapped out in 3D detail on the interactive map.
The company has more than 50 employees, primarily in its Denver and Minneapolis offices.
As it continues to grow, Concept3D has a host of product improvements in its gaze.
"We are continuing to explore the intersection of location, data and 3D wayfinding optimization and increased functionality to allow for greater inclusivity within route building (routes specific to accessibility, bikes, not just cars and walking), more real-time data integrations to expand the information available related to each location and map, accurate and complete 3D renders to further blur the line between digital, VR and AR," said Samantha Slater, director of marketing.
