Michelle Kennedy knows how challenging all aspects of motherhood are, especially when it comes to connecting socially with other mothers.
The former Bumble advisor launched Peanut in 2017, creating a social network for modern motherhood that enables mothers (and mothers to be) to meet, chat and learn from one another.
While the app has been available nationwide since 2017, Peanut officially launched a presence in Denver this week to further support local mothers.
Peanut’s discovery feature operates similarly to dating apps, but is tailored for mothers. Users fill out a profile, including neighborhood, bio, photos, age and gender of children or due date, interests and other defining factors such as work life and education.
The app uses algorithms and geo-location to match you with like-minded women nearby. Once matched, users can chat and create meetups.
Kennedy told Colorado Inno that a surge in local users caused the Peanut team to officially launch a Denver presence.
“Because Peanut is about making connections in that locality, that user density is very important,” she said.
With its official launch, Peanut will now offer additional support and resources to mothers looking to create a stronger community in Denver. Kennedy said Peanut will encourage more offline meetups and events, and will listen to the needs of the community.
“The local users should be aware that they can tell Peanut what they want,” she said. “If they want to do something and have some engagement with a regular meetup or one-off, we can support them in that.”
Eventually, Peanut will employ a full-time team member in the city to support local mothers. Kennedy said Peanut has officially launched in about 10 markets and that Denver differentiated itself with the number of connections made among users.
“Sometimes it’s not all about the number of users - what we’ve experienced and seen is a high number of connections made,” she said. “The Denver community wants to connect and are outgoing.”
The app is available across the U.S., Canada, Australia and the U.K. and has connected nearly 1 million mothers since launching.
